Stacey Beakes Jr. (1778-1849)
Stacey Beakes Jr. was born in a cabin just north of what was the town center (now Eisenhower Drive). He fought for the country in the war of 1812. Stacey opened a general store on what is now Franklin Square and successfully applied to the county for a post office in the store, making Middletown an official listing in 1816. He was elected first village president in 1848. Stacey Beakes has many prominent descendants. William Beakes is currently on the board of Hillside Cemetery.
