John Iseman (1835-1921)
German by birth, John Iseman came to New York City from Wurttemberg in 1853 and started a bakery at age 18. In 1863 he moved to Middletown and continued as a baker. He was a trustee of the village of Middletown and became its first mayor in 1888. He was the first vice president of Hillside Cemetery. He was also a president and trustee of several banks, fire companies, churches and community organizations in Middletown.
